CAPTURING PHOTON PROPAGATION THROUGH SPACE

Through some innovative techniques, MIT researchers have created an imaging system that records one trillion frames per second, fast enough to catch light itself propagating through space.

To get footage the researchers had to take a picture of a photon burst at each location along its path, a process that took an hour according to the article. The photos were then stitched together one after the other to produce the seamless video shown at 1min45sec.
